It’s been more then 48 hours and my tax return still says pending. What should I do?

Your e-filed return is still in pending on the server because the IRS is currently accepting/rejecting/processing returns.  Sometimes it can take more than 48 hours to process. Only a few returns were accepted early in a test batch.  Everyone else has been waiting. Please see the TurboTax FAQ below for more information on pending returns:

You will need to wait to receive notification of either the return being accepted or rejected. The IRS does not work on first come, first serve. There will always be people who get accepted before you and people who get accepted after you. Once TurboTax submits the return, we get no updates from the government unless the return is rejected, in which cause you will be notified. If you went through the entire return and got a message that your return was successfully filed, you should not have to do anything else except wait for the accepted or rejected status notification. To check the e-file status of your return, please click here for instructions.

So if it still says “pending” a week from now what should I do .. I never had to wait this long just to get my tax return accepted or rejected

Although it typically takes 24-48 hours, it sometimes can take longer. More details on your pending return has been posted for you below.
