It has been over 21 days since my federal return was accepted.

It has been over 21 days since my federal return was accepted. I checked the IRS online tool; it says that my return is still being processed and refund date will be provided "when available." Is there an issue with my return, or is the IRS processing more slowly this year with the stimulus checks, etc.?  Have you seen others with the same issues?

The IRS should send you a letter as to the issue with your return.  Without more information as to why it is taking so long to process, currently there is not much you can do.

Once the IRS opens their phone lines again, if you have not received your refund, you will need to call them at 1.800.829.1040 to see what the issue is.

Diane, are you saying that there is absolutely some issue with the return since it has been over 21 days?

No, I am not saying that there is an issue, there maybe an issue.  If there is an issue the IRS should send you a letter.

Processing times at the IRS have increased in the last little while.

At this point there is no way to know if there is an issue or not without more information from the IRS.
