is it worth while to amend a previous year tax form from filing married to filing separate returns when you sell an income rental house?

The IRS does not permit you to amend a return from married filing jointly to married filing separately after the April filing deadline for that tax year.  Sorry.

If you filed the previous year tax return as Married Filing Jointly you cannot amend the tax return to Married Filing Separately after the due date of the tax return.
