I have already filed my 2023 tax back in March. Just a couple of days ago, I learned that I should have filed FATCA. Is it okay if I amend my return and add Form 8938? I just tried and it looks like I am allowed to amend the foreign asset/account section online. Or is it too late and I need to follow streamlined filing compliance procedures? I know FBAR has an automatic extension to October 15. I am not sure if there is any extension for FATCA.
FYI, I know someone already asked a similar question (below). The difference is that the person was trying to amend before the tax filing deadline whereas I am trying to do the same after the deadline.
