Is it OK that employer corrected my SS# on my W-2 form & re-printed it instead of issuing a W2-C? I now have two W-2's. He says it's OK and fixed with SSA on his end. ??

My Social Security # was incorrect on my W-2 form so I asked for a corrected W-2 from the employer's accountant. The accountant said that if it is only SS# and no actual wage amounts that he doesn't need to do a W2-C, that he could update the information on his end and that I could submit W-2 with incorrect SS#. He kept saying it was fine, if I wanted I could cross out incorrect SS# and write in correct one.  I said I wanted a printed W-2 with my correct SS# on it. He finally, reluctantly, printed out a new W-2 with my correct SS# on it but it is not a W2-C, just another W-2. The information DOES seem adjusted because employer info auto-imports now in TurboTax, whereas it did not before. HOW do I file this -- as W-2, amended W-2? Or does he need to give me a W2-C (which he refuses to do as he says it is unneccessary)?

File with the W-2 that matches the correct name and SSN. Keep all the documentation should IRS need to see copies of the W-2's you got.  Also for your file, put down who you talked to at the company and that they refused to issue you a corrected W-2.  If the return does reject in e-file go back to the employer.

If correct information was transferred in, he must have updated the file so everything should be fine.

You are correct a corrected W-2 should have been issued (W-2C).

Then in a couple months check with Social Security and review your earnings so you are getting credit for the correct Social Security paid in and the correct quarters.
