IRS Credit on account notice CP80 for successfully e-filed return.

I just received a credit on account notice from IRS for 2020 tax year. That return was filed in February 2021 via TT along with the payment I sent to IRS via Turbotax. I did receive an email via TT that said "Your federal tax return was accepted by the IRS".

IRS online portal which I can access via id.me log in also shows the 2020 return info. Despite of that, IRS is not able to tie the payment to my 2020 return.  It says we haven't received your tax return when their portal shows the tax return is in their system and also the TT email received last year clearly saying Your federal tax return was accepted by the IRS. Is there a glitch in IRS's system?

I got this letter yesterday too. Last week I requested my 2020 tax transcript and was able to retrieve it, so I don't know why they would say they didn't get it. AND I had to pay thousands of dollars. They cashed my check too. I've tried calling their [phone number removed] and it says they are too busy to answer my call and hangs me up. I don't know what is going on over there.

I did go online and read this:

  • Due to processing delays for 2019 and 2020 tax returns, the issuance of CP80 and CP080 (Unfiled Tax Return – Credit on Account) notices has been suspended. If you received a notice for your 2019 return and you filed timely, please refile the return. If you received a notice for your 2020 return DO NOT refile.
