Using the desktop software just start a New Tax Return. If the program does not find a prior tax data file for 2022 then click on Browse. Go to the location where the 2022 tax data file is located, select the file and click on Open.
Copy the .tax2022 file from the external hard drive to the hard drive on your new computer, then do what DoninGA said above. TurboTax will not find the copied 2022 file automatically.
Sounds easy and probably is... if one knows where one goes to "browse". I don't see that command, can you direct me please? Thanks.
@golfcrackerjack Do you have the Desktop installed program? Here's a screen shot from Windows 2021 for Transferring from 2020. It should be the same for 2023.
I have the Mac version. Thanks for trying to assist.
I have done that and it still says it cannot find file
Perhaps you changed the file extension of your 2022 tax file. If so, the program won't recognize it. For a 2022 tax return the extension must be .tax2022.
Where do I find that file? I have looked for that file extension but can’t find it.
I think the Mac hides the extensions. Find tax files on Mac

Turbotax lost my 2023 info and I have to start over. How do I import =2022 info to the new 2023 return?
