If you have somebody help you file your taxes is it possible for someone to accidentally have their account and routing number in place for deposit

Wondering if it could potentially be an accident and what I should do if it was deposited into someone else’s account and spent the person that helps me file

The bank will reject the deposit if the name on the account is not the same as the name on the refund.  If that happens the bank will send the refund back to the IRS.  The IRS will then mail a refund check to the address on your tax return.

IRS takes no responsibility for your refund going to someone else.

You're on your own.

someone that does your return for you can change the a/c and routing numbers but it will do them no good unless somehow your name gets on the account.. some taxpayers elect to have their fees deducted from the refund in which case the refund does go to a third-party bank to split the refund between the fees and the balance that is forwarded on to the direct deposit account specified on the tax return.
