If my wife has a Social Security Card that says "Not valid for employment" but she did get a work permit together with a green card. What should I choose?

To file jointly with your wife she will need an updated Social Security card, follow these steps:

  1. Update Social Security Card: Since your wife's Social Security Card says "Not valid for employment" but she now has a work permit and a green card, visit the Social Security Administration (SSA) to update her Social Security Card: Update Social Security Card. Or...
  2. Filing Taxes: For tax purposes, you should use her updated Social Security Number (SSN). If she does not have an updated SSN by the time you need to file, you can use an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) as a temporary measure. See information at this link.
