If you e-file by the deadline and the return is in pending past the deadline, the return will still be considered timely when it is accepted.   But is it still never a good idea to take it right down to the last second.   If you are getting a refund there is no penalty for being late.   If you owe tax due you need to pay your estimated tax by May 17.   If you cannot get your return ready by the deadline you can get an extension to file, but you still have to pay by May 17.

I appreciate the speedy answer. i have actually paid my state already with a check the amount turbotax said.  I was just getting worried cause ive never had them pending this long. Its only been 3 days, but just wanted to double check. Again, thanks for the fast reply.

What if the filing gets rejected?

There is a grace period to correct the return if it is rejected, to allow it to not be considered late. @layane

I filed my taxes on the 16th of April 2022 and my federal was accepted in a little over an hour. It is now the 21st of April 2022 and my state taxes still are in “pending” status. Should I sit tight and wait or should I be proactive and dig deeper. I just want to make sure that my state taxes were actually submitted. Thank you in advance.
