If I remove the direct deposit and have the check mailed instead, will it get rid of the $40 deposit fee?

To avoid the $40 refund processing fee you have to pay for using TurboTax upfront by using a credit or debit card to pay BEFORE you e-file.    You can still get your refund by direct deposit.
