If I paid state income tax for another state, how do I get refund?

Income tax was on 457(b) nonqualified plan

File a non resident return with HI.

Okay.so you lived in NC when you received the distribution ? Which state's taxes were withheld?

HI because employment was in HI 16+ yrs ago when 457(b) was funded

Former employer pd HI State tax on distribution of 457(b) because plan was terminated.

Will HI refund the income tax? Do we then pay NC?
