If I have already made a payment online for a CP2000 notice, how do I record that when making an amendment for that tax year?

If the IRS issued you a CP2000 notice, and you agreed with their proposed adjustment and paid the tax, the change is now a part of your IRS tax return. You don't need to file an amended return with the IRS, but you can prepare one in TurboTax so that your 2024 return is up to date in the software.

If you later found another area of your return that needs to be changed, then you would add the CP2000 changes to your TurboTax return and add the amount you paid to the payments shown in TurboTax, then make your additional changes.

To enter additional payments In TurboTax Online:

  1. Go to Deductions & Credits
  2. Select Estimated Tax Payments
  3. Click Start or Revisit next to Federal estimated taxes for 2022
  4. Scroll down to Additional Payments
  5. Enter the Date Paid and Amount Paid
