If I didn’t get my stimulus check on my last tax return because of an error on my part will it be applied to my 2020 return when I correct it?

If you are eligible for a stimulus payment based on your 2020 tax return, you will get the payment as a credit on the 2020 tax return.

@stevewuzhere - look at Line 30 of Form 1040, which is where the stimulus will appear if you are eligible.

if there is an error on 2019, amend to correct it.

But it is the 2020 return that controls the stimulus rebate.

I just re-read your actual question..

if there is an error om your 2019 return, fixing that error will not cause the stimulus to be paid.  But you need to fix the error.

What will cause the stimulus to be paid is submission of the 2020 tax return,.  This is a IRS FAQ that is similar to what you are asking:

A9. No. If the IRS determined that you were ineligible for a payment based on your 2018 tax return prior to your filing a 2019 return, the IRS will not issue you a payment in 2020.

If you meet the eligibility requirements based on your tax information in 2020, you may be eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2020 federal income tax return in 2021.
