If I am amending a return to add my spouse who filed separately, do I add her W2 to the amended return, even if she already filed?

We got married out of the Country in Dec 2016, and did not know we should have filed married. Instead, we each filed separately. I am now amending the return to married filing jointly. Since she already filed and entered all of her information, do I still need to upload her W2 information in my amended return?

Yes, you will need to add her financial information on the 1040X since you are both considered one taxpayer when filing Married Filing Jointly (MFJ).

According to the IRS:

"You are changing from separate to a joint return. If you and your spouse are changing from separate returns to a joint return, follow these steps.

Enter in column A the amounts from your return as originally filed or as previously adjusted (either by you or the IRS).

To determine the amounts to enter in column B , combine the amounts from your spouse’s return as originally filed (or as previously adjusted) with any other changes you or your spouse are making . If your spouse didn’t file an original return, include your spouse’s income, deductions, credits, other taxes, etc., in the amounts you enter in column B.

Read the instructions for column C to figure the amounts to enter in that column.

Both of you must sign and date Form 1040X."

How do I do this if I downloaded the 2016 Turbo Tax desktop program? It is taking me through everything like I am filing completely new for my spouse.

Did you use TurboTax last year?

Yes, I did. And so did my wife. I can open my return without any issues on the software. It downloads my return. However, it is my wife's return that I am concerned about. Can I can upload both of our returns on the program to refile as married filing jointly? If not, it asks me to input all of her information and W2 information again. Is there a way to bypass that?
