If I already filed and then received information about interest income that I need to record, do I just wait until I receive my return to file an addendum?

I got a letter from the IRS saying that they paid me interest income during the 2018 tax year, and that I need to record $28.47 on my 2018 tax return. I already filed an I'm awaiting my refund, so I'm not sure how to proceed

You should wait on any Federal refund to arrive before amending.   See what the refund amount is, just in case the IRS caught it and adjusted it, although I doubt that is likely this early in the year.    If they do change something, and you get a different refund amount, they should send you a letter about 3 weeks later explaining what.

In the meantime, do not make any changes in your return.  If you have to amend, it has to start off exactly as originally filed.

The amended return cannot be efiled.  It has to be printed and mailed, and can take the IRS up to 16 weeks to process.

If you amend the Federal return, you may have to amend your state return as well, if applicable.

I added this above:
