I was wondering if anyone who filed and got their taces taken for student loans fought it? I never got a letter stating i was in offset and saw you can claim hardship to try and get the taxes back.

Has anyone tried this and succeeded?

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service will send you a notice if an offset of your refund occurs.  Adjustments can be made if your tax refund has been erroneously applied.

The best way you can find out if your refund is being used to offset any student loan debt is to call the Bureau of the Fiscal Service's Treasury Offset Program.

You'll find the number in the IRS' Topic Number 203 - Reduced Refund.
