I've used turbo tax for years, but not online, always the program on dvd. If switch to online, can I load my historical data? It's helpful to see years side by side.

Sorry---no.   When you use the CD/download the tax files are saved on your own hard drive.  You cannot put them into an online TT account.  Only returns prepared using online TT are stored in an online account.

You can, however, transfer the 2022 return from your PC to online if you are switching to online this time.

Just do the transfer before you enter any new 2023 data.

And yes...if you transfer your 2022 datafile to 2023 "Online"   your 5-year and 2- year comparison sheets should show up on your Online 2023 tax file dataset......only the full PDF for 2023 with all the worksheets..not the Filing-Only copy.

It's just that the actual 2022 and earlier year datafiles and PDF sheets won't suddenly show up online.

But most of us using the Desktop software, won't use the "Online " software, other than test file accounts to help answer questions in this Forum.

NO Forms Mode, and thus, no easy access to the forms for checking things out or correction of occasional easy-fix errors.   Tax return PDF files Online disappear after 7 years.   Once the Online software shuts down in late October...only the huge PDF with all the sheets is available..no file-only PDF copies,...etc..

Thanks, very helpful.  Think I'll stick to desktop for all those reasons!
