I thought you usually receive your federal tax refund before your state refund

I filed my taxes and both state and federal were accepted by the irs.  Today I got my state refund, but I thought most people usually get their federal first

The IRS doesn't accept the state.  the IRS notifies the state it's accepted the 1040 and then it's the state's turn to accept or reject. the fed takes UP TO 3 weeks for direct deposit when there are no issues with your return. every state is different as to timing of refunds
