I think I gave 4 extra digits for my account number and that is why I am not receiving my refund?

Because I took my account number from a check that I was given from my bank when I opened my account, I think I accidentally put a longer account number. Can you check if everything is ok with it or you have to correct it? Because I feel like it is taking too long.

What does the IRS website show when you track the refund?

Many banks will tell you NOT to use the 'account number'  printed on an initial/courtesy check they provide when you first open an account --it often differs from your actual account number.

If that is what you used there is no way to change it after you have filed your return.

When the bank returns the deposit to the IRS, the IRS will re-issue your refund as a paper check and mail it to the address on your return.

If your return has been accepted (or mailed), there is no way to change your account for direct deposit.  Unfortunately, once TurboTax has submitted your return to the IRS, TurboTax no longer receives information regarding your return.

  • If the info you provided is for a closed or invalid account, the IRS will mail you your refund check
  • You can track the status of your IRS Refund by using this site: https://www.irs.gov/Refunds
  • If you cannot access your return through the IRS refund tracker, you'll need to call the IRS 1-800-829-1040 to receive the most up to date information regarding your return.
