I selected mail-in return, but after printing my forms I learned they are wrong. How to delete

To get back into your return, please see the instructions below on how to get back into your return to make changes:

1.    In TurboTax Online, sign into your account.

2.    Select Tax Home in the left menu.

3.    Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents.

4.    Select 2018, and then select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this just gets you into the right menu).

I'm afraid I still don't know what to do next. Turbotax really wants me to amend but I don't want to fill out an amendment--the IRS will be confused because I never actually mailed anything in, so to send an amendment wouldn't make sense. I'm afraid this is an intractable problem with the free version of turbotax online...though I guess it's my fault for trying to print my returns before I was ready.

If you selected print and mail and need to make a change, you do not want to amend. The program thinks you have filed so to get around this and get back into your tax return to make a change you would follow the instructions above. This just gets you back into your return so you can make any necessary changes.

Right. I appreciate your help. But after I "get back into" my return, it never lets me edit or clear the two returns (federal and state) that it believes I already mailed. It only allows me to edit the one I added in step 4 above. I don't think there is a way to do the thing I want to do--it's my mistake. I will just have to do things another way.
