I recently amended my taxes and got the same exact amounts refund wise on both, do I have to still send a check of the amount that was my original refund if never cashed?

I had amended them and got the same amount as a refund on both. I never cashed neither state nor federal. The checks were thrown away by accident. After doing the amendment of my taxes it is asking me to send a check with the amount of my refund in order to amend them,  but I do not have that money and never cashed my checks anyways, do I still have to send it ? Or is there a way I can go about not se nding it and still get it amended since I have no difference in money? All I did was remove a dependent ( which I never got any money for on my original taxes anyways) so his father can claim him. And he can't claim him unless I amend him off of mine correct?

First you do need to Amend or the father will not be able to claim the child.

If the refund amount stayed the same you do not need to send in any money.

If you did lose the checks you will have to contact IRS and the state and have new checks issued.

If you lost your IRS refund check (or failed to cash it in before the 1-year expiration date), call the IRS at 1-800-829-1954 to initiate a refund trace. ...

For lost state tax refund checks, contact your state tax agency.
