You may not need to do anything right now, but I do have several things for you to look at.

  • Was this a Federal (IRS) or State notice?
  • Do you have a copy of your tax return?
  • Did they give a description of what the revision was for?
  • Does it make sense?
  • What dollar amount did the revision change from the original?

Please contact us again with any questions, and provide some additional details.

Hello,

This was a state notice from the FTB.

I do have a copy of my tax return.

The revision was for CA Income Tax Withholding.

It does not make sense.

The difference between is $947 - $247.

It sounds like the FTB got a copy of an income form for you (W-2, 1099, whatever) that had a different amount for withholding than what you reported on your tax return. Or possibly an employer or a pension plan sent them a different amount of money than what your W-2 or 1099 reported.

In looking at the letter, is there any hint as to which form (W-2,. 1099, etc) they are referring to? You can't start investigating until you know which form they are complaining about.
