I received a notice that the "Excessive State Disability Insurance" amount used for calculation is wrong (off by 56$). I expected turbo tax to take care of this.
You can put in an accuracy guarantee claim if you think the program made a calculation error ...
What year? How much is on your CA 540 line 74? Did you have more than 1 employer? Check your W2 box 14 or 19 for CA SDI. Is the total more than the max $1,183.71?
Oh, are you married? If you both have W2s the max is for each spouse separately so don't add them together.
The SDI Withholding Rate for 2019 is 1 percent. The SDI taxable wage limit is $118,371 per employee for calendar year 2019. The maximum to withhold for each employee is $1,183.71.
If you are married make sure you properly indicated which W-2 belonged to the correct spouse ... if you put to many on one person then that could be causing the issue and that is a data entry error by the user and not the program's error. Review that carefully since it could affect the federal return as well and they have not sent a notice yet ... look at the 1040 Schedule 3 line 11 ... do you have an amount on that line ?
Does your W2 show one person paid more than the max? Send the state copies of your W2s showing it. Maybe they didn't get the copy from an employer.
if you do not understand the notice or it does not explain what the FTB changed call them. There will be a number on the notice.
Agreed ... call the number on the notice and ask them to explain why they made the change ... until you do you are just hunting for an answer/response in the dark.
By the way, you never said if your return is right or wrong. Is the excess SDI on line 74 the right amount? Is the state right or wrong?
Return looks right, calling them up (looks like they missed a W-2).
