I received a letter from the IRS stating that they needed more info to process my return. Is that something I need to do or does turbo tax handle this

You will need to send the information that the IRS is requesting. 

It pertains to healthcare with I did not have and do not have the documents they want because of being unemployed for 8 months out of the year.

In this case, you will need to call the phone number on the IRS letter and let them know your circumstances and they will tell you how to proceed.
