I received a letter from the IRS for audit. I received forms 886-h-aoc and 886-h-eic. Can you help me with this process? I have 30 days from 03/04/2019 to comply.

If you purchased Audit Defense, you should contact them immediately so they can help you through the process. Here is a contact link: http://www.taxaudit.com/turbo-tax-audit-defense

You can also check out the TurboTax Audit Support Center.  This is free even if you did not purchase Audit Defense.  In addition to using our self-help tools, you can call and talk to a tax expert to assist you in more detail. The following link will take you there: https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/irs-notice/audit-support/.

Basically, for the 886-h-eic, you will need documentation to:

  • prove that your child lived with you in the US for more than half the year (School records, Daycare records)
  • prove how you are related to the child (Birth Certificate, court records, adoption records)
  • If your child is over age 19: Prove they were a full-time student or totally and permanently disabled

You can click here for Supporting Documents for AOC.

Check out IRS Tax Topic 654 for details on what can be used to prove the above: https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc654.
