What was the 1099-G received for?

it just has tax year 2015 state or local income tax refunds, credits, or offsets. I'm a resident of the state, but live and work for the military out side of it year round.

After you are in the return following the amend instructions, you will use the following steps to locate and report your 1099-G for a State or Local refund:

You would enter the State refund information reported on the 1099-G, in TurboTax, by doing the following:

  • Log in to your TurboTax Online account, or open your TurboTax CD/Download program
  • Click to Continue your return/Take me to my return
  • Click on Federal Taxes (choose the option: I'll choose what I work on, if offered)
  • Click on Wages & Income
  • Locate Other Common Income, and click to Show More
  • Locate Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns  and click Start or Edit

Please see the following TurboTax FAQ for instructions on how to amend your 2016 tax return in TurboTax.

Did you already file? Do you need to report a 1099-G that you left off the original return?

Is the 1099-G reporting a state tax refund?

If you get a state refund for a tax year in which you took the Standard deduction on your Federal return (did not Itemize) you don't report the state refund.

A 1099-G can also report unemployment which would need to e reported. If that is the case, and you already filed, you will need to now file an Amended return.

Here is a link with more on doing that.
