Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA

What exactly was refunded to you and why?

So the FICA refund should NOT have been collected.   Do I then show it as a income received for that year on the 1040 form? Legalize does NOT answer the question.

You still have not indicate Exactly what was refund to you.

Federal Income Taxes?

Social Security Taxes?

Medicare Taxes?

A Form 1099-G is only received from the state or federal government to report certain types of income to you.  Box 1 is for Unemployment Compensation.  Box 2 is for a state or local tax refund.  Box 5 is for RTAA payments.  Box 6 is for Taxable Grants.  Box 7 is for Agricultural Payments.

None of those types of payments have anything to do with FICA.

Which box on the Form 1099-G you received has an amount entered?

Refunded FICA taxes that were withheld in error is NOT income and is not reported on an INCOME tax return.

Make sure that your W-2 reflects in boxes 4 and 6 the net amount of FICA withheld (original amount withheld minus the amount refunded that was originally withheld in error).  If your W-2 is not correct, obtain a correction from your employer.
