I owe federal taxes but i filed to cover amount of child support owed

I paid more in taxes last year than I owe in federal tax, which i elected to pay, but i owe a certain amount in child support that the additional money from filing my taxes should have paid off. I did not see any representation of that in my statement. The IRS phone lines are suspended due to the COVID-19.

It depends.

Your refund could be reduced to pay the past-due child support.

Attached is a link with more information.  You can contact the Department of Treasury's Bureau of the Fiscal Service to determine if any of your debt was subject to the tax refund offset.

Usually they will send you a notice before making any adjustments to your refund.
