If you filed your 2017 Tax Return but never received your refund, you will need to contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.

You can also check your IRS Tax Account online to see if they show that you owe taxes by clicking this IRS link:  https://www.irs.gov/payments/view-your-tax-account.

If your 2017 refund was offset for a federal debt, back taxes, or child support, you should have received a letter from the IRS stating the offset amount and who it went to.  If not, you can contact the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) at 1-800-304-3107 to check with them about offsets on file for you.

If you are unable to get things resolved with the IRS directly, you can contact the Taxpayer Advocate by clicking here: https://www.irs.gov/Advocate/The-Taxpayer-Advocate-Service-Is-Your-Voice-at-the-IRS .  The Taxpayer Advocate is there to help you deal with the IRS when you are unable to get things straightened out on your own.

Finally, if it is your State Tax Refund that you are missing, you will need to contact your State Tax Office directly: State Tax Office Contact Information.

You will have to call the IRS for the status of the 2017 federal tax refund.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.

The hospital I work at had been compromised. I did all things required of me to get the return. I contacted the IRS by phone, letter, and visited the Wichita KS office. We waited and never heard anything back.

Are you just now checking on them for the first time?

If you didn't receive both the 2017 Federal and state refunds, you need to first figure out if they were successfully filed.   How did you file them?  Did you efile them, or did you choose to print and mail?

If the 2017 returns were prepared in Online TurboTax, log in and at the Tax Home scroll down to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents."  Expand that section and choose tax year 2017.   What does it say about the 2017 Federal and state returns--which of these terms:  accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or what?

If you can't find the account with your 2017 return, we can tell you how to look for multiple accounts.

This is a public Internet forum.  You should not post any personal info here.  Luckily, it appears the forum privacy filter removed your email address for your protection.  Someone could have tried to spam/scam  you.

I'm sorry, but I simply don't understand your confusing paragraph, and I'm not sure what we can do for you in this user community forum, except maybe tell you who to talk to--once we figure out what you're talking about and what you are wanting to know.    But so far your overall situation is not clear at all.

Did you have a 2017 refund that you didn't receive, and so you phoned the IRS?  Did the IRS tell you a deposit was returned to the IRS?  Did they send you a paper check that was returned to them?  Is that what you meant by the IRS told you they have a "check waiting" for you??   Or was your refund's direct deposit returned to them, and they tried to send you a check in the mail?  Or what??

Then out of the blue, you suddenly switched to talking about a card, and an account number, routing number, that you gave the IRS.  You said the IRS told you to "order a card."   What's that all about?    Did the IRS agree to make a deposit to a card by taking your card's deposit info over the phone?   That all sounds really odd.   I'm surprised they would do that.   Did they ever make a deposit to the card?   What kind of card is it you activated--is it a Turbo Prepaid Visa Card?

"I don't wanna owe the IRS or be in no trouble..."

I don't understand that at all.  If you are due a refund you didn't receive for 2017, why did you suddenly say "owe the IRS"???   What do you owe them for, and why do you think you would be in trouble because you are due a 2017 refund??

What is it that you need to know by posting here?

  • Do you need to know how to speak with the IRS again?  Unfortunately, their live assistance call centers have closed for the time being during the Coronavirus situation.
  • Or are you having a continuing problem with the IRS and need to recruit the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service to help you resolve a problem with the IRS and get your 2017 refund?   If so, we can tell you how to phone that department.  The IRS Taxpayer Advocate offices are still taking phone calls.
  • Or is it some kind of card problem that you need to speak to your card's customer support about?  If so, is it a Turbo Prepaid Visa Card?

Is this the first time you're checking on it, or is there more to the story?

How did you prepare your 2017 return?  Was it with Online TurboTax?   If so, log in and at the Tax Home scroll down to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents."  Expand that section and choose tax year 2017.   What term is used for the Federal return (and state return, if applicable).  Does it say accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or what?

@Kimberly40 - your post is a little vauge...

go to IRS.GOV and go to 'transcripts'

Look up each year of your transcropt and it will show if you owe or you are owed money for a given year.

@Kimberly40 We do not who "they" is----who says you owe $210?   When did you pay that--and how did you pay it?    It is now 2022 and you are asking about a 2017 tax return.   What has been going on with that tax return for the past several years?   Did you file tax returns for 2018, 2019, 2020, or 2021?

Please explain more clearly what you did for the 2017 tax return and what you are trying to do now in 2022.   We cannot help without  some more details.  Do not post any personal information like your SSN or banking information though.
