I need to file an additional form that wasn’t included initially with my taxes.. can i still do that?

I received a form from going to school this year. I received it after doing my taxes.. and after the deadline. Is there an option for me to file this?

If you already e-filed your tax return and the IRS accepted it for processing, you have to wait until it has been fully processed to add anything to it.    Then you can amend and use Form 1040X for amending.   It is not clear whether you should be putting the "form from going to school" on your return or if your parents should be using it.

Were you the student?   Were you claimed as a dependent by your parents?   If so, the parents who can claim you as a dependent are the ones who can use the 1098T on their tax return to get the education credit.   Dependents cannot get education credits.   Or.....was there any scholarship money on that tax document?

Hey thanks for responding!
I am the student! Both parents deceased, no one can claim me as a dependent. The form 1098-T does say a little bit is in scholarships. Idk if that’s of the total amount or in addition to? I have filed my initial return and received my return back in Feb of this year. I’m just wondering if i can file this form i just received, late and after the cutoff of April 15th without an extension, or if it’s just a loss at this point? Do i have any options? Thanks!

You cannot just file the form by itself.   You can amend your tax return to include the 1098T.

To amend:

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
