I need to amend my return to add add some expenses that i forgot. I completed the return but havent filed it.

Do not click on anything that says "amend" to add information to a return that has never been filed.   Amending is a special process that you use ONLY for a return that has been filed and processed by the IRS.    If you need to add some information to the return, you might need to click on "Add a State"---you do not really have to add a state return but that trick will allow you back into the software to enter more information before you e-file.
