I mailed my tax return from Germany on 12 Mar 2021. IRS website does not show them having it. Should I mail it again?

I am an American citizen and my wife is German. She does not have a social security number so I am filing married but separately. Turbo tax will not let me e-file because of this. I sent my return in March and still nothing, should I print and mail again? Also, can I have a family member in the states print and mail it?

Do not mail it again.  Your USA family cannot do so either, since it requires YOU to sign it with a pen.

Per the IRS:

COVID-19 Mail Processing Delays

It’s taking us longer to process mailed documents:

  • Paper tax returns, and
  • All tax return related correspondence.
  • Expect extended delays if you mailed your return or responded to an IRS Notice.

You do not mail your tax return twice.  You are not alone.

Although the IRS has processed and issued most refunds from e-filed returns around 21 days, because of the backlog caused by Covid, some of the returns will require more time to review.  They are also behind due to CARES Act, stimulus, American Rescue Plan Act and a huge amount of early tax returns being filed this year.
