I mailed my return 3 weeks ago but forgot to sign it, I looked at the IRS website and nothing. I efiled this morning and it said approved but received my state today?

I am trying to understand how my efile was accepted but I received my state today? I mailed my federal and state return to the state department and forgot to sign it. I was wondering what was going on since I could not locate any information online so I rechecked the return I sent and noticed it was not signed and I sent the federal with my state when I was suppose to send it to a different state. I was trying to download my return and resend it and it was not able to so I efiled again assuming it was going reject my return again but it accepted it?

Ok ... so you failed to mail the federal return to the feds (because you sent it to the state by accident) so the feds never got the return which is why you could efile it now and it was accepted for processing which will take on average 21 days. The federal return had to be mailed to a separate address, the federal you sent to the state was never forwarded to the feds for processing.

Now for the state ... if the state sent your refund that is good, you are done with the state.
