I just filed my return and realized I forgot to include $1,077 in deductible donations. Trying to figure out if the tax savings is worth the cost of amending my return.

Are the Total of All your itemized deduction with the additional $1,077 greater than the standard deduction for your filing status?  If they are then it would benefit you to amend.  If they are not then there is no reason to amend.

Standard deductions for 2019

  • Single - $12,200 add $1,650 if age 65 or older
  • Married Filing Separately - $12,200 add $1,300 if age 65 or older
  • Married Filing Jointly - $24,400 add $1,300 for each spouse age 65 or older
  • Head of Household - $18,350 add $1,650 if age 65 or older
