I haven't filed my taxes but received a deposit from the IRS Treas

The title of the deposit said: "ACH FRANCHISE TAX BD CASTTAXRFD"

That deposit is your California refund.

No one here in a user community forum is going to know specifically why CA FTB sent you the money or even what tax year it was for.   Perhaps they corrected a past return (in which case you may also get a letter in a couple weeks.)    In any case, you can phone the CA Franchise Tax Board during their business hours to directly inquire about it and have them explain it.  I believe they also have online chat.

Also see the next comment below that Tax Expert @AmyC  just left you that warns about a possible scam.   Be sure and talk to the California FTB to see what is going on.

There is a tax scam where they file a return for you, you get the money and then they call and get you to transfer it back. Of course, it goes to the scammers.  Be smart and safe.  Check your account then call CA at  (800) 852-5711.
