I have no way to open this .tax2016 file after paying for turbotax2016 again

I have a .tax2016 file. I have spent months getting all emails and accounts between me and my ex to find my return... no account we have has my individual 2016 return on it online. But I have the file! I just paid $75 to download turbotax2016 to open the file, and another $45 for the state whatever because the trouble shooting said I needed to pay for that again. It won't open. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I just want my AGI. My ex boyfriend lost my printed returns, my social security card, and I don't have a  loan or credit card to request it from the IRS. I honestly don't know what to do now.

Hi there! So sorry for the trouble you're having. Perhaps you've tried it this way, but if not, try this:

- Open the 2016 TurboTax program.

- Use File > Open Tax Return and locate the .tax2016 file.

Does that work? If not, what happens when you try this?

This is what is not working.  It tells me my tax return is now on this computer but won't show it. It gives me error 190. And prompts me to download my state return. This is how I got swindled out of another 45+ dollars and still can't look at my AGI. It continues to prompt me for download and payment even though I have paid for it and the money has come out of my bank account. This is so frustrating. I have tried to click for a solution option on the message as well.

I am completely incapable of filing my taxes until next year, it seems, that is... if I can get a credit card or loan of some sort by then to request my tax info from the IRS.

Also I can't get to the reply screen from my email to allow me to post under my original community name. I click on the link and it asks me to make a new user. I'm 27 and swear I'm not completely computer illiterate. This website is driving me bonkers.

Both replies on this message are things I have already done.
