Did you have any luck with the number provided? I've been on hold for 3 hours.

I've been waiting since Feb also.  Usually the state refund comes within a week or two of the federal refund but not this year

Anyone get answers. My GA was accepted on the 28th of January.  It STILL says processing.  When I call they just say...it could take 90 days...I have never had it take longer than a week...

My tax return was accepted on feb17. Mine also is still processing. Strange how my brother got his back even before the federal return,  which he's already received now and he filed at a later date than me.

Exactly. It is so weird.  Just frustrating that when I call they say nothing is wrong, just has not processed yet.  Well, everyone else's has...lol. UGH

Same here. I worked in state but lived in another. Even though it has been fast the past 8 years, this year is over 2 months now. Still saying processing.

In my case, I mailed my tax return and I am not even able to track the status. It says, "please verify the information".

Please see the following from their website:

The Department of Revenue is protecting Georgia taxpayers from tax fraud. ... It may take more than 90 days from the date of receipt by DOR to process a return and issue a refund. All first-time Georgia income tax filers, or taxpayers who have not filed in Georgia for at least five years, will receive a paper check.

What else can I do?

  • Sign up for online access and to receive notifications from the Georgia Tax Center (GTC) when a refund has been issued or when a return has been filed with your social security number.
  • Adjust your Federal and State income tax withholdings for the immediate benefit of higher paychecks vs. a bigger tax refund

I am not sure this phone number will help you

Per GA, allow at least 90 business days  = 18 calendar weeks = approx 4.5 months.

We know what the site says. I think they are trying to understand what is normal. I would be willing to guess that 90 days is not normal, even for GA.  I would call the state directly. They might be able to provide some guidance.

I've had similar problem with Georgia, it's first time filing in Georgia. Got federal and SC back in less than 2 months, Georgia hasn't even started to process my return after 98 to 100 business days. This was previous year return and was mailed, calling the number is no help, repeatedly told I'll be able to check status online when they start processing.  Will mail out 2nd copy tomorrow in hope that they can get it done before  July 4th. I'm 50 years old, have NEVER dealt with such incompetence.

The state of GA is lying to the public.  They are holding our refunds in order to collect as much interest as possible.  I filed in early March and should have received my refund 2 months ago at least.

GA will pay you interest on late refund payments.
You can change your state withholding so that you do not have to go through this again next year.

They won't be late with my refund for 2 more weeks (which will bring it to the 3 month mark), and I am counting every single day.  Thank you for the information, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll get that interest back if they are late.  The state has NO business holding my refund for their benefit...am I the only one angry about this?

I filed on Feb 10, which is 127 days ago as of this post.

The longest I've been on hold on the [phone number removed] number is three hours.

There are no articles I can find on why there is a delay at all. My friends have received their refund. I thought I was alone until I came across this thread.

I would appreciate a link to any article on why there is a delay.

Exact same situation. I filed Feb 6. It's my second year filing here, no address change, standard w2 jobs, a few stock trades, hsa, ira-- nothing exotic, under $1k refund. Doesn't make any sense why it's taking this long. I'm going to buy a pitchfork and axe handle (can you buy separate?) Ron Swanson on taxes.. https://vimeo.com/57723506

Wow. Accepted on January 28 and they still say it could take 90 days! It's almost been 180 days! Mine was mailed late so maybe I'll get refund by Christmas! This is ridiculous!

There is a simple fix for the GA (or any other state) ... just don't have a refund.  Plan to owe a couple of dollars when you file and just pay it then ... this way you don't need to wait for your own money to come back to you.

Simply have less withheld ... give your employer a new allowance certificate :

I found a phone number to call and talked to a human being.  He checked the status of my account and confirmed that my return was processed on April 15, 2019 but that they had up to 90 BUSINESS days to send the refund.  He also volunteered that date would be August 21.  I will call again tomorrow (Aug 21) and see what they say now.  What recourse do we have to hold the state accountable?

Vote in different people to the state legislature to make changes ... otherwise you have no recourse if the statute allows them 90 business days.

I personally have from own experience discovered the the tax service is a money pit of waste incompetence and they do not care! Too many over paid low out out people to do the work that fewer people with ability can perform

1. You can write their office. Like I have for 2 years no reply no refund .

2. Calling never happen unless you have hours to wait then get disconnected .

I am retired Military Pilot.Purple Heart Veteran. Caucasion male.  I am discovering the entire system is a serious inept money pit .

3. I have had the IRS  prepare my taxes for Several years. Just to prove the point the IRS is not racially biased. That they are fair and quick with a refund  . They actually answer the phone and respond to your enquiry. Ga income tax does not care!

The Governor has the wrong people in place! To scared to clean the mess up.
