I had to amend my state return and the tax I owe is less. Can I change the amount I scheduled to pay with my credit card at a later date?

I now owe less and the payment is scheduled for May 1.  Can I change the amount that will be charged to my credit card on that date?

No, the IRS or state wouldn't allow that.

The original return and the amendment are separate filings.  The original return amounts are accounted for in the amendment.

If you were allowed to change the original payment, then the amendment amount wouldn't be right.
