I got married in 2024 and my name is different on my W2 than my Social Security Card, will this cause issues when filing my taxes?

I was able to change my name on my social and my drivers license, but my employer is still dragging their feet to update for employment records. So, now my W2 will still have my maiden name. Do I have to wait for a corrected W2 or can I file as is? Which name do I use? Also, I added his last name to mine without hyphenating, if that makes a difference.

The name on your W-2 and the name on your current Social Security card do not have to match, only the Social Security numbers have to match.

The name you enter on your tax return has to be the name that is on your current SS card.

Here's some general info on getting married.  Did you both use Turbo Tax last year?

You can not transfer from or combine 2 returns or accounts.  Just pick the return for the spouse that has the most complicated return to enter or has any depreciation or business or  more investments.  Or use the account for whoever you want to be listed first going forward (by the way you can not change the order of the names).  Then add the other spouse's name, ssn and info to it.

You should usually  file a Joint return which is only 1 return combined for the both of you.  Make sure to stick with this one account for the future.  Just ignore the other spouse's account.

Does it matter if one of the W2 are from a different state?

Not if your social security number is correct on the W2 and you put the correct last name (the one that matches your social security card) on your tax returns.
