I got a letter from the IRS stating they needed more information, the first two pages of my return and proof of income and withholdings. Is this normal?

It depends.

Yes, they do send notices if they are requesting additional information.  It should have a notice (CP) or letter (LTR) number on the top or bottom right hand of your letter.

Please see the following link to confirm that your notice is legitimate and from the IRS.

Please note, the IRS does not initiate any contact using email, text message, or social media channels.  This would indicate a scam.  Please see the following link if you received your notice in one of these methods.

Thanks,

Yes it does have the LTR number at the top. I found it odd they needed the first 2 pages of my return and proof of income. Wouldn't they have both that information when I filed?
