I filled my sons tax return (Son 1) and now I need to do my other sons return (Son 2), what do I need to do? It goes back to Son 1.

Please do not start another return under your account for another family member. It will be overwriting everything in the return you just filed. This will replace your info, which means you won't be able to retrieve your return later.  Instead, please follow these steps:  

1. Make sure you have signed out of your TurboTax account 

2. Go to https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/compare/online/ to select the TurboTax product that will meet the needs of the filer 

3. Create their account, set up a new login for the additional return (you can use your email address for up to 5 accounts if you want to receive e-file notifications)

If you have TurboTax CD (not Online), you're allowed to file more than one return. So this answer is very unsatisfactory. Please advise how to start a second return in the CD version without overwriting the first one.

You should be able to start a new return within your TurboTax CD/Download by clicking on "File" at the top left of the program screen and then clicking on the "New Tax Return" option.

 

If you run into any issues doing this please follow the steps below:

 

  • Close your TurboTax program completely
  • Re-launch it
  • Then on the main screen, proceed with the same steps above, click on "New Tax Return"
  • Make sure you are not choosing "Open" tax return
