I filed my Texas taxes with TurboTax for 2019 but I have now received a notice with the state of California tax franchise board that I owe back taxes. What can I do?

I worked for a company that is based out of CA but I worked and lived in the TX division the whole time. Now they’re saying I owe and I must file a 540 NR form within the next 30 days or they will put a lein on my accounts. Spoke w former employer and they have never required this of us.

Were you an employee who received a W-2 for your wages?  If so, and you never lived in California or worked in California at any time in 2019 then you do not owe any California state income taxes.

Call the phone number on the notice you received and you should be able to resolve this issue easily.
