I filed my taxes last week and today I received a 1099-G from CA tax board for taxable year of 2023 with only a box 2. Do I need to report this with an amended return?

It depends.  If you did not use itemized deductions in 2023, and this is showing a state tax refund for your 2023 tax return, then there is nothing for you to do.  Keep it with your tax files noting why it was not included.

If you did itemize deductions you may have to amend your return.  Wait for IRS acceptance, and state, then you can check to see if there is any difference in total tax, refund or balance due before you actually send an amendment.

The amended form will be ready later in the year. By using the link, Tax Forms Availability, you can continue to check to see when it's ready. If you decide you do need to amend use the steps in the link below.

Be sure to check your state rules as well.

Thank you. I always  take the standard deduction so I guess I won’t report; thank you!
