I filed my return on January 22nd, I got an email that it has been successfully transmitted on the 23rd. It has been pending since then. The IRS said they never received?

I contacted the IRS on 1/31/25 and they said they have no record of receiving my return and my transcript also says there is no record of my return.

"Transmitted" means it is now sitting in pending on a  server.

Millions of e-files have been backlogged on servers for weeks.  This week the IRS began to accept/reject e-files.  When yours makes it through that pipeline, you will get an email

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

TurboTax has a software and website issue and are blaming the IRS. If you are in a pending status it is because TurboTax has NOT actually sent your return yet. There is no real time line anymore. My fourth call in to TurboTax and the response was "hope and pray it goes in at some point, but do not know when". There are thousands sitting with the same issue. I just hope TurboTax is ready to deal with all of these customers and the possibility of a class action suit.

There was a hold on certain credits causing a pending status on returns.  The pending status has been resolved and return statuses should be updated.

There could be a couple of reasons why you might be experiencing a delay:

1. First, the status might be pending for security reasons. This may be a sign that someone is trying to use your identity to file a tax return. This can take up to 72 hours, after which your return will then be forwarded to the IRS, or if applicable, rejected. If rejected, you can then correct the rejection issue and resubmit. Please see this FAQ for reference

.2. Secondly, there could be a delay if your return has various refundable credits, such as the Earned Income Credit, Investment Credit, Energy Credits, or Business Credits. You may need to wait a few more days and check your filing status again. Please see this FAQ for additional information.

Note: Both instances may be applicable. That is, you could have a hold for security reasons first. And additionally for verification of the refundable credits in your return. In this case, delays might extend beyond 72 hours.

Additionally, if you have Form 5695 and claiming joint occupancy, the IRS will not be accepting these returns until 3/16/25. You can see this on this IRS site. The language you see below is from Row 39 of the Tax Year 2024 spreadsheet.

Taxpayers claiming Joint Occupancy on Form 5695 will have to file via paper if filing their return before the Form 5695 schema is updated in mid-March. This temporary limitation should only impact a subsection of Form 5695 filers. For a preview of the TY24 draft form and instructions for Form 5695, please see the Draft tax forms on IRS.gov at https://www.irs.gov/draft-tax-forms. Submission of Forms 5695 that do not claim Joint Occupancy may be e-filed at the start of Processing Year 2025

I received 2 notifications from TurboTax that my federal and state return were accepted by the IRS and the State of Ohio.   I have been getting emails from TurboTax (1) to purchase, (2) to file and (3) Asking me to "Final reminder to complete your personal information.  What is going on?  Have my tax returns been received by the appropriate agencies or not.

If you got notifications from TurboTax that your Federal and State returns were accepted by the IRS and Ohio, then it is up to the tax agencies to process your refund or payment.

Check your email for additional messages. A message could have been routed to a junk folder.

Check the IRS Where's My Refund? page.

See this help article for information to contact the state tax agencies.

If you are still receiving marketing mails from TurboTax, it may be because you looked at other TurboTax products.
