I filed a non resident Massachusetts state tax return. The amount of my refund is lower than what is shown on the forms I saved. Why would this happen?

It could be due to a state refund offset.  A refund offset is when a refund is reduced or intercepted to pay off delinquent debt such as delinquent/unpaid state income tax. Also a change could have been made to your tax return by MA Department of Revenue.

You will receive a letter in the mail that will explain the reason for the difference.

You may also contact your state (expect a long wait time):
