The 2016 1040X line 1 col A is for the original amount or as previously filed. The amount should have populated when you started your amended tax return. You should not be e-filing the 1040x so the system shouldn't be accepting an e-filed Form 1040x. Federal amended tax returns must be printed and paper filed to IRS.
