I entered the wrong bank routing number on my 2020 federal return.

I found out after I filed my 2020 federal return through Turbotax that my bank routing number had been changed last year due to the bank being bought out by another bank. My account number stayed the same so I assumed that my bank routing number was the same as well. Only after I filed and my tax refund never showed up did I contact my bank and found out that the bank routing number had been changed. I am not able to speak due to throat surgery so I cannot just call the IRS help lines nor Turbotax's help lines. How do I get the right information corrected on my 2020 return? Turbotax won't let me amend the return because they say none of my tax information has changed. Help!

If you e-filed:

Banking information for direct deposit is wrong

If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected.  If it is accepted, howeve

r, it is too late to change it.

The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.  Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return.  Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.

Thank you for your help. I guess I'm back at the mercy of the IRS again. 😀
