If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected. If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it. The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return.
Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information
Is it physically a different bank, or did one bank buy out another bank? I can't tell from the way it is worded in your question. If one bank took over another bank, they may still honor the deposit info. You can ask them.
It was bought by a different bank. The money definitely hasn't been deposited at this point and it has been 2 months since the return was accepted and the status said that it was sent to the bank. I'll check with the bank in the morning and hopefully be able to call turbo tax tomorrow as well. Thank you very much for your response, I appreciate it!
Did you have any TurboTax fees that you chose to pay out of your Federal refund? If so, the money goes first from the IRS to an intermediary bank where the fees are subtracted. We can tell you how to check on it at the intermediary company, it you did use that service.
