I collected sales tax in 2017, but didn't have to submit it until 2018. Do I claim the sales tax submitted in my 2017 or 2018 tax return?

I have an ecommerce business. The sales tax I collected is included in my 1099-k.

If you used the cash basis (like most small businesses), you can only deduct the sales tax paid over to the state in the year you actually paid them over (i.e. in your 2018 tax return).
